The OMNIA – Zermatt

Hotelchain: A member of Design Hotels
Location: Zermatt – Switzerland
Classification: 5 star hotel

Rated among the best hotels in Zermatt, the OMNIA is a luxurious five star design hotel where I (as every other guest) was treated as a king! This hotel is unique in several different ways, let me tell you why!

First of all, the location is out of this world… With its enviable position on a rock, 45 metres above the village of Zermatt, there’s no mistaking where are you when you arrive at the Omnia hotel. The hotel offers amazing views over both Zermatt and the world famous Matterhorn. As mentioned before, the hotel is located on a rock so I first had to pass a tunnel with their electric car and take the glass elevator to the reception area with its open fire place and cozy sitting areas. So cool!

I immediately felt the Swiss hospitality and was warmly welcomed by the professional staff. Check-in was very efficient and kind. We were offered their welcome drink, a yummie sparkling wine, while they did the necessary administration. So nice and much appreciated!

All of the rooms at the OMNIA vary in size and shape, but all enjoy different views and are luxuriously appointed. I stayed in the very exclusive Tower Suite and I fell in love with this suite as soon as I entered. The suite had a separate living room and a large bedroom with a king sized bed. The balcony offered an amazing view of the Matterhorn and surrounding areas! Sitting here with a glass of wine made me forget all the worries and hectic things about life and made me feel so relaxed. I’d describe the style of the suite as contemporary and simplistic design. The wooden floors and high quality furniture were great and added some extra touch to the room. Every bed at the Omnia feature Tempur mattresses and I was happy to find out that every guest receive a complimentary decanter of Bourbon as a welcome gift. What a nice touch! Turndown service was done every night and the chocolates on the bed were great 🙂

The suite had two bathrooms, one with a bathtub and one with a shower. I did try their premium AESOP toiletries and loved them! They smell amazing…

After exploring the beautiful rooms, I went down to experience the spa facilities. With a large indoor pool and small outdoor pool, a Finnish sauna, steam room and relaxing loungers, the OMNIA’s Spa caters for all wellness and indulgent relaxation needs. Relaxing in an outdoor whirlpool with Matterhorn views… How cool is that? I went down each morning to swim outside and admire the stunning mountain views. A nice fitness room is available too with one of the nicest equipment I have ever seen!

I enjoyed a wonderful and absolutely delicious dinner in their restaurant, overseen by their executive chef Hauke Pohl. The restaurant has been awarded with one Michelin star. The restaurant combines an easygoing elegance with a contemporary sense of style. The dining room itself is nicely decorated with some local artwork. The food was out of this world. The chef created an outstanding menu that features fresh, local ingredients and all his dishes are masterfully prepared. I started with a gourmet salad and calf’s tail essence with mushrooms, ginger and chili. As a main course I enjoyed a bresse chicken with broccoli, peanut, soy, chilli and garlic. The dessert, Ali’s cholocate variation, was outstanding! They also offer a wonderful collection of fine wines from around Europe and the world.

Breakfast is served here too and made my morning a happy one. The top quality buffet offered a wide selection of food and was up to the standards I expected: a table carefully dressed, a good variety of bread, a large choice of cereals, hot and cold drinks, fresh fruit and yoghurts, local cheeses, meat, etc. Loved it! The à la carte options are varied, a must try are the crêpes with blue berries and mint

The Omnia in Zermatt is a fantastic place to stay while you are in Zermatt! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The staff made me feel at home from the moment I entered the hotel until I left. One morning I had a bleeding nose and housekeeping found my dirty tissues… they took them to laundry and brought them back the same day. This is unique and much appreciated. The exceptional location, relaxing spa area and most accommodating staff are the highlights of the Omnia. I loved my stay here and can’t wait to return one day!
