Situated right the Keizersgracht, the well-known Canal House is a small boutique hotel right in the center of Amsterdam. If you are looking for a high end property with personality, the Canal House truly is the place to be! No large lobby here, the check-in desk is located right at the bar. I was definitely welcomed with a great smile! Everything I needed to know about the hotel and surrounding areas was explained in a very kind way. I immediately felt home here which is quite unique.

A lot of hotels call themselves a “boutique hotel”, but the Canal House just really IS one! Soft relaxing music all over the place, a tranquil ambiance and only 23 rooms. The personal approach is lovely without acting over the top. On top of that, I was in love with the decoration.

As said before, there are only 23 rooms here. All of them are very comfortable and very classy! I stayed at five star hotel rooms that were less comfortable than here. It is all about the details at the Canal House, from the stunning Mexican mosaics used in the bathroom to the comfortable leather couch…
Decoration is quite modern and I really appreciated the high quality furniture. Bathroom had large tub and separate rain shower and toilet. Definitely try the bathroom amenities by Green & Spring, they are great and you will find them in all Curious hotels. You can actually purchase some for home.

Since the Canal House is a small hotel, there’s no full service restaurant but they do offer several fancy snacks such as the burger with fries, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken wrap. When I ordered a cappuccino, I absolutely LOVED the (homemade!) brownie! It was just to die for! Oh, and prices are very reasonable considering I was in Amsterdam. Great cocktail menu too! It was so nice sitting outside in the gorgeous garden. You wouldn’t tell I was in the center of Amsterdam, it is like a hidden gem and I could have spent here all night long.

At night, I spent some time in the garden… enjoying a mojito (of course) + chicken wrap and then had some me-time in the luxurious room. I took a bath and then had a great night’s sleep. The bed was great with plenty of good pillows.

Breakfast is served downstairs in the main living/dining area. The buffet was excellent with a lot of healthy options and juices. Several (hot) à la carte items are available as well at an additional charge.

The unique thing about the Canal House is the staff. Everyone I met here was so professional and kind. They all seem to enjoy their time here which is always nice to notice. No grumpy faces here, but all want to make sure you have a great time in Amsterdam! They seem to be true ambassadors of the Canal House and nothing was asked for too much.
