Villa Magna is one of the most luxurious five star hotels in Madrid or let’s even say Spain! I just had to explore and experience this hotel myself and was blown away with this property… As the hotel is part of the Leading Hotels of the World, my expectations were high and didn’t disappoint. All I can say that it definitely deserves its good reputation!

Location is excellent, right near the center of Madrid. The hotel is located in Salamanca, the Madrid district known for its high end boutiques and trendy restaurants. Madrid’s Big Three Art museum, the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen-Bornemisza are reachable in walking distance. We walked to the old city center in just 20 minutes.

2

As soon as you enter Villa Magna, you enter a world full of luxury. The lobby area is just stunning and recently renovated. I immediately noticed the beautiful art pieces and cozy lounges. The place is dotted with plush sofas and features a champagne bar with garden facing picture windows. I could spend hours here reading a good book!

With only 150 rooms and suites, Villa Manga is not a very large hotel which is why they could offer a very high service level. I’ve found the service to be very personal and professional. They even remembered my name. Front desk staff was very professional and made me feel at home right upon arrival. My rooms keys were handed in just a matter of seconds and everything I needed to know about the hotel was told in a very kind way. What a great start!

IMG_6112

There are several types of rooms at Villa Magna and each room is luxuriously appointed with all the amenities and facilities one could wish for. I stayed in a Grand Prestige Room and what a prestigious room it was… With a size of 50m², I had plenty of space… right in the center of Madrid! The room was huge and the décor was refined. Our room (I must say ‘suite’) was furnished in mahogany wood. I still had some work to do and was very pleased with the spacious work desk.

7

I loved the walk-in closet with dressing area and marble bathroom with bathtub and separate walk-in rain shower. Luxury toiletries by Asprey London were a bonus! I can tell you, they smell like heaven!

5 6

Other standard amenities in each room I liked are the Nespresso coffee machine, the pillow menu and an amazing Dream Mirror 37’’ television. The room almost felt like an oversized luxurious boutique room! Loved it!

Villa Manga has three restaurants: The Lounge, which is more for casual dining where snacks, lunch dishes and cocktails are offered. The menu is pretty varied and I can recommend the creative tapas … they looked absolutely delicious! The Lounge is located in Villa Magna’s stunning lobby area. For a more formal dinner, Restaurant Villa Magna is the place to be! With Amalio Prados as executive chef, this restaurant offers fine dining options in a unique setting. If the weather permits, guests can dine on the terrace. And last (but not least!), their Tse Yand Restaurant offers a Cantonese cuisine. In the menu you will find traditional dishes as well as very sophisticated proposals, such as steam jasmine rice with lotus leafs and the most exquisite dim sums of the city.

We had dinner at Restaurant Villa Magna and enjoyed every single bite of our excellent menu. The chef prepared some of his signatures dishes in tapas portions. We started with the scarlet prawns croquettes and a Granny Smith apple gel, followed by the grilled octopus with Creole chilindron. As a main course, we tried the grilled sea bass with sautéed vegetables and a surf and turf creamy sauce. A must try for dessert are the red berries with gratinated sabayon and hazelnut crumble… So delicious!

The hotel offers luxurious spa facilities. I thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing full body treatment during my stay at Villa Manga. Club Wellness by Kiara Kare has a ‘back to basics’ concept with simple and authentic beauty and wellness experiences. Their focus is on true well-being and a healthy life style. I love the fact that they care about the environment as they use 100% ecological and earth-friendly oils and cosmetics products. My therapist did an outstanding job! She was very professional and knowledgeable about the body and the products she used. I totally enjoyed my 60 minute anti-stress relaxing massage with its soft and relaxing with wave-like and indulging maneuvres. She used organic almond oil. Loved every second of this treatment and felt reborn afterwards!

11

The next day, we had breakfast at Restaurant Villa Magna and again, the food and service were five stars all the way! As it wasn’t too hot in the morning, we enjoyed breakfast outside on the peaceful terrace. There’s a buffet with fresh ingredients and a lot of fresh fruit. There’s also a varied à la carte menu with a lot of choice for prepared eggs, etc.

20

They also have several high tech meeting and board rooms for any events. Also, for exclusive weddings, this definitely is the place to be!

24

Villa Magna is a top notch five star hotel, this hotel is an example for many other hotels and offers a very high level of service. Incredible how the manage to be that personal in a very professional way. Hardly ever experienced and oh so nice to notice! I would return in a heartbeat to this jewel! Highly recommended!

Hotel Ritz Madrid is a very classy five star hotel in the center of Madrid built in 1910 and managed by Mandarin Oriental. Although the hotel will undergo some renovation in the near future, the hotel’s stunning façade is listed as a national monument. The hotel is located on a very interesting spot near the center of Madrid. The Museo del Prado is only a few steps away and the old city center is just a 20 minute walk.

Entering the Ritz is entering a world of refined service and elegance. The gorgeous lobby took my breath away, it is just mind blowing with cosy seating areas in a very elegant atmosphere.

All 162 rooms and suites at Ritz Madrid are luxuriously appointed with all the five star amenities one could wish for. Marble bathrooms feature bathtub and shower. Oh, and I should highlight the Loewe toiletries! 🙂

14

Ritz Madrid offers several dining options such as the Goya Restaurant, the Hall and the Ritz Garden. We thoroughly enjoyed a tapas experience in their beautiful garden. It almost felt like a magical fairytale garden to me as there are several light effects at night to make the fountains look even better. I also loved the live piano music while we enjoyed the most delicious tapas. This definitely is the perfect place for a romantic evening!

IMG_6398

The food was outstanding… and I can recommend their tapas tasting menu, they offer only the best of the best! We started with some crusty bread with a freshly prepared tomato tapenade and some yummie Iberian ham. A must-try is the Cherries Gazpachuelo Soup, normally i’m not really a fan of cold soups, but i LOVED this one and could eat it every day! The seafood Russian quinoa Salad that followed was refreshing and tasty. They love croquettes in Spain and you will find some on every menu in Madrid. At the Ritz, we tried three different kinds: Iberian ham, mushroom and chicken (with curry and leek) croquettes together with the best patatas bravas! Each of them were delicious! A perfect dinner always end with a great dessert. The merengue and ice cream made me feel like I was heaven!

Rated as one the best five stars in Madrid, Hotel Orfila has a very good reputation and is part of Relais & Chateaux. I was very pleased to stay here and I can definitely confirm that this hotel is one of a kind! Relais & Chateaux has always been synonymous with elegance and impeccable service, and this hotel is no exception.

You can’t beat the location, the hotel is located in the middle of it all! Museo del Prado is just minutes away as well as the Garden of Eathly Delights. The shopping district and several restaurants are nearby the hotel too. Although you are in the center of Madrid, I did not had that feeling while staying at the hotel as it is located in a quiet and peaceful area.

1

Hotel Orfila is a small palace built in 1886, the hotel has a great history! If almost feels like a museum with stunning art works and paintings all over the place. The beautiful garden courtyard and adjoining patio are a bonus! The weather was beautiful while I was in Madrid and spending some time in their garden made me feel so relaxed! That is right, Hotel Orfila has an amazing terrace and small garden where drinks and light tapas are served offering stunning views over the surrounding areas.

14
15

Maybe the best thing about Hotel Orfila is the staff. They are so kind and professional. Nothing really is asked for too much! They really go out of their way to serve the guests and that’s why I believe Hotel Orfila is rated among the best hotels in town.

There are only 32 rooms which is why every guest is treated as a true guest and not just a number. As you would expect, rooms are decorated in a classic way and feature period furniture and marble bathrooms each equipped with a jacuzzi tub! We stayed in one of their largest suites and were blown away when we entered the suite! They did an amazing job by decorating this suite in a very classy and elegant way! The separate living area had the most comfortable couch and cosy arm chairs. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable.

7
4

The oversized bathroom had a fancy rain shower with massage jets. I appreciated the large Jacuzzi, what a great way to relax and unwind after a busy day in the city!

6
5

There’s a restaurant and bar inside the hotel as well, all in a unique setting.

18
17

Behind every corner, a new surprise can be found such as the superb trompe l’oeil effects and pieces of art. Walking through the hotel made me feel like I was staying in a fancy boutique hotel!

13 12

I enjoyed the five star service here! For example, complimentary weekday newspapers and turn down service are provided daily. The beds are dressed in premium bedding lines and 24 hours room service is available too. Even valet parking is included in their rates. For some reason, I loved their complimentary mineral water bottles, maybe it’s the design and color of the bottle itself? I don’t know, but I just loved it 🙂

After a wonderful night in our fancy suite, we were ready for breakfast! Breakfast is served in their restaurant with the adjoining terrace. It was one of the better breakfast buffets I have experienced with fresh and healthy options as well as homemade pastries. Staff really went out of their way to made us feel relaxed.

10

Hotel Orfila is a top notch five star Relais & Chateaux hotel, it is an ideal place from which to explore Madrid and its fantastic atmosphere. It is a romantic hotel with charm and personality. Can’t say enough good things about this place! Experience it yourself!

Hilton Madrid is a five star hotel located near the airport of Madrid. It is only a 10 minute drive to reach at all the terminals which makes this hotel ideal if you need to catch an early flight the next day or if you arrive pretty late in the evening.

As you can expect of a Hilton hotel, Hilton Madrid offers comfortable rooms and a good service. For example, a complimentary shuttle service from/to the airport is offered to all guests. It runs every 20 minutes. Four times a day, a shuttle will even bring you to the center of Madrid, dropping you off at Puerta de Alcalá from where you can easily explore Madrid!

Although the building itself has been built years ago, the hotel from the inside looks pretty modern. I liked the bright atrium and overall atmosphere. Check-in staff was efficient and provided us with all the information we needed to know.

4
3

The rooms at Hilton Madrid are nicely appointed featuring either a king sized bed or twin beds. Our spacious room had a comfortable lounge chair and a nice desk. The semi-open bathroom featured bathtub and separate shower and standard Hilton toiletries.

1
2

Hilton Madrid offers an outdoor pool which can be covered if needed and a full sized fitness area. It is great to be able to use the pool after a flight.

6.PNG

Downstairs, there’s a restaurant and bar where guests can either enjoy a full menu or a small light snack and drink. Staff was very attended and were pleased to serve us in a very kind way. We only had a drink so I cannot comment on food.

Breakfast is served here too consisting of a good buffet with several cheeses and ham. If you need to catch a plane very early in the morning, a small buffet with coffee, tea and some pastries and croissants is offered… Very nice touch!

Hilton Madrid is one of the better airport hotels near the airport of Madrid. I would recommend this hotel is you need to catch a plane early in the morning as the shuttle service is very convenient. Even for a stopover in Madrid, this hotel is a good choice as it offers a shuttle service to the city center. Make sure to reserve your spot though, as places are limited! Very pleased with my stay!

Cruise review: M.S. Koningsdam

1
Cruiseline
: Holland America Line
Ship: M.S. Koningsdam
Itinerary: Voyage to the Midnight Sun – Norway
For bookingshollandamerica.com

image17 (7)

As some of you already know, I’m a huge fan of cruises. While I traveled with several cruise lines already, I choose to sail with Holland America Line this summer and was very excited to explore their newest ship, the ms Koningsdam. Koning means king in Dutch and it truly deserve its name as it is a stunning ship with the latest technology features. We traveled to the North Cape on a 14 day cruise to the Midnight Sun. Let me first share some facts about the cruiseline.

Holland America Line has several ships, from mid-sized ships to large. They are active in the cruise industry for some time which I could experience myself during the cruise I did. They know how to treat their guests in the most comfortable and convenient way.

The ms Koningsdam is a large ship, let me share some facts:

  • Ship’s registry: The Netherlands
  • Guest capacity: 2,650 guests
  • Gross Tonnage: 99,500 grt.
  • Length: 975 ft
  • Beam: 114,8 fr
  • Dedicated: May 2016 by Queen Maxima of the Netherlands

All public areas on Koningsdam are decorated in a very stylish way! The pictures speak for themselves…

image6 (59)
image6 (57)
image15 (15)
image20 (5)

During our cruise, we stayed in one of their verandah cabins and were very pleased with our cabin. Most people think that cabins on a ship are tiny and you don’t have any space at all to move around. Nowadays cabins are five star hotel rooms with all the amenities one could wish for. There are several cabin categories on the ms Koningsdam, from interior cabins to the Pinnacle Suites. Our cabin had the most comfortable king sized bed, a small couch to relax and watching the sea pass by and a comfortable working/vanity desk.

image16 (10)
image12 (21) image13 (20)

As mentioned before, their signature Mariner’s Dream beds are great and feature finely woven cotton lines. Every stateroom has comfortable bathrobes and mini fridge. I also loved the bedside USB ports, very convenient!

Bathrooms all amazing! I must admit I fell in love with their shower, the bathroom had the best shower on sea I ever had… it is a full sized shower with a premium massage showerhead, plenty of room to move and no annoying curtains here that sticks to the body.

image14 (18) image15 (12)

The five star services include complimentary shoe shine service, complimentary room service and the room will be serviced several times a day, including turn down service at night. They also refill the ice bucket each night and I requested daily fresh fruit in my room too at no additional charges.

I should also mention that I appreciated the large HD television with (complimentary!) on demand movies. It is great to watch a movie on a sea day or before going to sleep. It is an interactive television where you can follow your itinerary, consult today’s menu, etc. Absolutely loved it!

The food at ms Koningsdam truly is amazing. There are several restaurants to choose from for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Each guest is traveling here on full board basis and I would rate their dining options each with five stars. Let’s start for breakfast. We opted to enjoy a delicious breakfast at the main dining room as we liked to be served since we are on holiday! The breakfast menu is amazing, unbelievable how many things you can choose from! I ordered the Breakfast Parfait each day which is Greek vanilla yoghurt, fresh berries and crunchy granola. Several “Greenhouse Spa” selections are available as well such as the Swiss Style Muesli which contains low far yoghurt, fresh fruit, toasted hazelnuts, oatmeal and honey. Do not forget to try the Swedisch pancakes with a mixed berry compote and whipped butter.

I loved the fact that you can choose if you want to share a table. Sometimes we opted to enjoy breakfast with just the two of us and sometimes we preferred to chat with others. When we had booked an excursion, we opted to have breakfast at Lido. Lido is their buffet style restaurant and although I usually am not a huge fan of buffets, I must admit that the buffet on ms Koningsdam offers high quality food. Guests cannot touch any food as all food stations are staffed and they are most happy to hand you the food you want, very hygienic! Even the Grand Dutch Café offers several typical Dutch breakfast options. The Grand Dutch Café seemed one of the most popular dining outlet as it is opened all day long. I loved their typical Dutch appetizers such as “bitterballen” and cheese souffles. The coffees are delicious here too! Definitely check them out when you’re sailing on ms Koningsdam!

image17 (6)
image9 (51)
image5 (60)

The Main Dining room at ms Koningsdam is just gorgeous! It is a very stylish restaurant with bright colors and the most comfortable furniture. We had so much fun here during our cruise and as mentioned before, the food was just out of this world. It was pretty difficult to pick a dish as each was nicely prepared and oh so yummie. They offer several Holland America Line’s signature dishes each night such as the French onion soup, classic Caesar Salad and for the mains the broiled New York Strip Loin or the delicious oven-roasted chicken. Let me share some pictures with you of dishes I really liked.

image10 (49)
image2 (82).jpeg image14 (21)
image4 (65) image7 (59)

Do note that ms Koningsdam has several fine dining restaurants on board as well. For a reasonable additional charge, you could have lunch or dinner at the Pinnacle grill for example, their steak and seafood restaurant. For lunch, you’ll pay $10 and for dinner $35 per person. I must say the place is stylish and the food is outstanding. It does represent the pinnacle of exceptional dining. Their menu is varied, innovative and creative. They use the freshest ingredients from the Pacific Northwest, featuring Double R Ranch Beef and premium seafood that delight the palate. Definitely worth the extra small surcharge.

image18 (5)

Canaletto is another specialty restaurant with an Italian cuisine. It is located next to the Lido buffet restaurant. For only $15 per person you can enjoy an intimate Italian dinner.

Sel de Mer is probably one of the best places to enjoy a delicious dinner on the ms Koningsdam. It is an intimate sea food brasserie offering a contemporary twist on timeless French classics. I’ve found out that the ms Koningsdam’s chefs even go ashore themselves whenever possible and bring back the catch of the day as a daily special for the evening’s menu. How cool is that?

image17 (8)

Other specialty restaurants on board are the Tamarind restaurant with a Pan-Asian cuisine and the Culinary Arts Center where fresh, artisanal dishes are prepared each night for an amazing dinner.

More casual dining outlets I really liked were the Dive-In and New York Pizza & Deli. Dive-In is Holland America’s signature burger restaurant. I loved the grilled chicken breast sandwich and cheesy fries! New York Pizza & Deli serves freshly prepared salads and personal pan pizzas made with a thin crust and delicious sauce. Both restaurants are included in the rate.

Getting bored on ms Koningsdam is impossible. Each day there’s an entertainment program with several activities I enjoyed very much! Every day, our Excursion Guide, Karlijn, shared her insight for that day’s port of call. Excursions can be booked at Journeys Ashore on Deck 1, Holland America Line offers several excursions at each port. I also attended several interesting spa seminars on board such as acupuncture and the Medi Spa Q&A. The spa area is gorgeous and has a fancy and very large jacuzzi. There are several pool areas and they can cover the main pool which is great as we were sailing in Norway and the weather wasn’t always great.

image9 (53)

image5 (59)
image6 (56)
image16 (12)

For people into sport, there’s a full sized fitness center and basketball court.

image8 (53)
image2 (79)

Also music and show lovers will appreciate the ms Koningsdam as there are performances each night. If you are into classical music, you will appreciate Lincoln Center Stage where live music is performed by amazing musicians. B.B. King’s All-stars is the perfect spot for a great night out, I would call the B.B. King’s Blues Club as the main dancing area on the ms Koningsdam. It’s a great place to hang out, have a drink and dance all night long.

image19 (4)

There are many bars at the Koningsdam. The Crow’s Nest was definitely my favorite place to hang out! This is the perfect spot to enjoy the sea as this cool bar offers amazing panoramic views.

image12 (24)
image3 (69)
image2 (80)

World Stage is their main stage for the evening shows. I was very impressed with the stage and surrounding LED screens, they are amazing and very impressive! Each night there’s another show. We thoroughly enjoyed their production shows with the on board dancers and singers. Holland America Line has a co-operation with BBC. One of the best shows was the Planet Earth show with live music. That truly was amazing. Also, several artists are on board and perform.

image10 (46)
image11 (21) image2 (81)
image13 (22)

If you are into gambling, a casino is also available! From slot machines to black jack tables, it’s all there… You will definitely have a great night’s out the latest in a sophisticated gaming area. Notes is a bar which is located near the casino which is the perfect place for whiskey tasting!

Using Navigator is another great feature of Holland America Line. It is their free web application on which you can plan your itinerary, see what is happening on board, make reservations for shore excursions and dining and review your account information.

The itinerary was just fabulous, we traveled to the North Cape. Let me share some pictures of the most amazing places we visited during our Voyage to the Midnight Sun!

Convenient location

Located in one of the tallest buildings of Rotterdam, the Marriott Rotterdam is one the best hotels in the city. It used to be the Manhattan hotel but they recently (about one year ago) renovated the hotel and it is now a Marriott hotel.

Renovated Lobby Area (loved it!)

When I entered the hotel I was wowed by the stunning lobby area. It just looks amazing… A contemporary designed place where it is great to hang out, enjoying a drink and making new friends. I just love the place, it is all about connectivity in a friendly and luxurious environment. Pillars bar and restaurant is located here as well which I will tell you more about later!

Five Star Accommodation

After a friendly and efficient check-in, I was ready to explore my beautiful executive room. Again, I was amazed by how different the rooms are now. The room was extremely large and absolutely stunning! The comfortable lounger was great for relaxing and surfing on my iPad, the large designer desk was excellent for doing some work and the best was among the most comfortable bed I have slept in. Marble bathroom both has bathtub and separate shower.

image5 (59)
image6 (56) image7 (56)

Since I was staying in an executive room, I had access to the executive lounge located on one of the top floors. Here you can enjoy complimentary soft drinks, wine and light snacks (cheese, crackers, etc.) throughout the day. It actually is a pretty good deal to upgrade your room with access to the lounge. Views are outstanding and there’s a relaxed atmosphere. In the next upcoming months they are going to renovate this lounge as well which will make the place even more comfortable.

Pillars Restaurant

At night I had dinner at the Pillars restaurants and I must say that the food and service were excellent! It is not just an ordinary hotel restaurant… I noticed several non-hotel guests enjoying a delicious meal here. The menu is varied, from meat to fish, from healthy options to let’s say less healthy but yummie choices, it’s all there and prepared in an excellent way! As a starter I enjoyed the confit salmon with a gel of watercress, pickled cucumber ribbons and Ice Plant. The Caesar salad with grilled chicken, Parmesan cheese, croutons and Caesar dressing as a main course was delicious too! And a good dinner of course has to end with a yummie dessert.

image3 (68)
image10 (46) image11 (20)

After all the eating and drinking, I was happy to find out that there’s a full sized fitness center at the Marriott Rotterdam.

image8 (53)

Breakfast is served on the first floor. The buffet style breakfast offers something for anyone. It is a very restaurant with the most comfortable chairs. A perfect start for the day and the surrounding views of Rotterdam makes it even more special!

image13 (20)

Marriott Rotterdam is a top notch five star property which I thoroughly enjoyed. Staff was very professional and kind, interior has been nicely updated and rooms are among the best rooms I stayed in while in Rotterdam! It is not one of those formal five star hotels, I felt at ease and was treated in a very kind yet professional way. If you are looking for a luxurious five star hotel in Rotterdam, this definitely is the place to be!

Hotel Des Galeries – Brussels

One of the best locations in Brussels!

Situated in the one of the best spots of the city center of Brussels, hotel Des Galeries is one of a kind! This four star hotel is the best hotel in its category in Brussels I stayed at, let me tell you why…

5

First of all, you can’t beat the location. Of course, the hotel is located right at the famous Brussels gallerie du Roi, in the historic center of Brussels. The Grand-Place is only a 3 minute walk away and as soon as you leave the hotel you are in the middle of the famous Rue des Bouchers where tons of restaurants are waiting for you at very affordable rates! This luxurious boutique hotel has been built in 1847 and only has 23 rooms.

An upscale boutique hotel

What I appreciate about this hotel, is the fact that they combine modern and designer furniture with some traditional elements in the dining room. I read somewhere that hotel Des Galeries is a perfect ‘Instagram hotel’ and I can easily see why… I appreciated the elegant combination of modern/old and the artful play of colours and luxury fabrics.

Hotel Des Galeries has a small lobby area where I was welcomed with a biiiiig smile! Loved it!

9

Everything in the hotel is immaculately clean and decorated with style and charm. This is totally different than a big chain hotel, every room at hotel Des Galeries is different and unique.

8
10

The Love Nest

I stayed in one of their luxurious duplex suites. It was room “number 38” and it is reachable by a small private bridge which connects the two buildings. Loved it! It felt like a studio to me and was amazed by how beautiful this room was. I was told that they call it their ‘Love Nest’ and it truly is. The suite had a great size (45 m²) and upstairs there’s a beautiful bathroom with bath tub and separate walk-in shower. When you go down, you will reach a very beautiful and cosy bedroom with adjoining sitting area. The wooden ceilings add an extra romantic touch to the room. Normally I do not spend a lot of time in the room, but here I could spend a whole day. The cracking sounds when you walk around on the wooden floor, the amazing views over the rooftops and the displayed books made me feel relax and actually ‘at home’ which is truly unique.

3

Restaurant Le Comptoir

Downstairs there’s a full service restaurant Le Comptoir des Galeries, headed by the Michelin star Chef Julien Burlat. Unfortunately, when I was there the restaurant was closed but I’m sure that they serve the best food in a unique setting.

6

Breakfast is served from 7am-10:30am and although it wasn’t the largest buffet I have seen, the products they offer are fresh and of a good quality. The small buffet consists of cereals, some pastries and several cheeses. I loved the freshly squeezed orange juice and salmon.

11 12

With only 23 rooms, they are able to provide a very personal approach and service. Every staff member I met was very friendly and accommodating. Nothing is asked for too much. That makes the hotel Des Galeries so unique and unforgettable. Highly recommended for a comfortable getaway to beautiful Brussels! I loved every second of my stay here!

Kempinski Villa Rothschild

Built between 1888 and 1894, Villa Rotschild Kempinski is world’s smallest Kempinski hotel with only 22 elegant rooms. This glorious five star boutique hotel has a great history. It was built as a summer residence for the family Rothschild and after World War II, it became the heart of economic and politic reconstruction of Western Germany. The decisive contracts for the funding of the Federal Republic of Germany were signed here. How cool is that? I just love to stay at places with a story behind…

Location

Villa Rothschild Kempinski is located near Frankfurt (reachable within 30 minutes) in a large private 10 hectare park. I actually had the feeling of staying in Scotland for some reason. When I saw the hotel after we entered the gate, I was just amazed. It is like a fairytale hotel with such a great charm.

Fairytale rooms

This boutique hotel (or let’s call it Villa) has art surprises waiting for you behind every corner. As soon as I checked in, I couldn’t wait to see my room… Words cannot describe how beautiful the room was. It was decorated with charm and style. With red tones, it felt warm and intimate. And the best thing about the room was the large balcony with the best view over the gardens and surrounding areas. The spectacular view let you easily forget that you are actually near busy Frankfurt. Bathroom featured double sinks and large walk-in shower.

7.jpeg 8.jpeg

A private park …

They have about 80 weddings per year and I can easily see why. You cannot ask for a more romantic setting then here at Kempinski Villa Rothschild. The park is just stunning and walking around is so relaxing. Birds everywhere… Oh, and do not forget to walk to the Donjon of Castle Falkenstein which is a 30 minute uphill walk in the wood. We did walk to the small castle during sunset, kind of scary but so much fun 🙂

5

Delicious cuisine

Villa Rothschild Kempinski will be opening a new fancy restaurant in the near future which I will write about later. This time, we had dinner at Tizian’s bar. The newly appointed chef prepared a wonderful and exclusive dinner for us. The chef knows how to combine ingredients and added extra touches to each dish, pretty impressive. I’m sure that this restaurant will be a new culinary highlight in the region as soon as it is opened. From the smoked salmon, to the fried monkfish with wild garlic risotto, glaced cherry tomatoes and beurre blanc (I loooooooved this one…..) and the sautéed fillet of beef with thyme jus… every single bite was divine. Sommelier was also very knowledgeable about each wine.

Guests staying at Villa Rothschild Kempinski can make use of the spa facilities (outdoor pool, fitness club and several saunas) of the neighboring Falkenstein Grand Kempinski which is only 1,5 kilometer away. A short 5 minute drive with their comfortable shuttle (Range Rover!) will take you there.

As you would expect of a five star hotel, turn down service was provided. We had a great night’s sleep in the villa and were awakened with a yummie cappuccino.

Breakfast is served downstairs at Tizian’s bar (if you are lucky, pick the seats near the large window – views are breathtaking). Breakfast was of a high quality, I loved the room where the buffet is presented, it feels like royalty when you are looking for which yoghurt you are going to pick :). The Nutella filled pancaked made me feel as a child again – I was so happy with them 🙂

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Villa Rothschild Kempinski is a top notch five star hotel with a great history. They are doing an excellent job by maintaining the tradition of the Villa. I would call this a fairytale high class hideaway near Frankfurt which I thoroughly recommend!

Falkenstein Grand Kempinski is a very exclusive five star hotel near Frankfurt. In 1909 it was a military sanatorium and later became a hospital. Today it is a gracious hotel that offers all the facilities of a high class hotel. From the moment I entered the hotel, I felt home.

Location

Location truly is spectacular. Falkenstein Grand Kempinski is located on a hill in a small village called Königstein. I was blown away when I saw the garden with the most amazing views over the skyline of Frankfurt. Especially at night, the view is gorgeous, I could sit outside looking out all night long.

The center of Frankfurt is reachable in about 30 minutes. As mentioned, Königstein is a small village with a relaxing atmosphere. No busy roads here. Nice thing to know: the hotel has a free on-site parking.

Wonderful rooms

Falkenstein Grand Kempinski has 112 luxuriously appointed rooms. I was surprised to see how large the room was. There was a cozy couch and large wooden desk (excellent for doing some work). The king sized bed was enormous! Marbled bathroom had double sinks and lovely walk-in (rain)shower. I loved the decoration, since this hotel has its history, I appreciated the fact that they respect the more traditional look of the entire hotel. True, rooms aren’t the most modern rooms, but all of them are classy and comfortably appointed.

What I liked most about the room was the view from our large balcony. Falkenstein Grand Kempinski is located in a large park and most of the rooms face the green surrounding areas, just beautiful and oh so peaceful.

Top notch restaurant

The onsite restaurant Landgut Falkenstein is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had dinner here and as the weather was really sweet, we were seated outside on the beautiful terrace with panoramic views. After some delicious cocktails, we were ready to experience the kitchen. The chef didn’t disappoint us, in fact we were pleasantly surprised with each dish. We started with a summer salad with vine-ripened tomatoes and scallops, followed by Atlantic halibut with (yummie!) apricot-chanterelle vegetables and puree of baby peas. The braised beef roulade with red onion jam, glazed carrots and brioche dumplings as a main course made me feel in heaven. And no dinner without a dessert J We thoroughly enjoyed a duet of chocolate and passionfruit with fruit ragout. On top of that, it came with lime sorbet. One word: heaven!

Relaxing Spa Facilities

It would be pretty difficult (let’s say, impossible) to get bored at Falkenstein Grand Kempinski! Their Ascara Fitness and Spa Club is a must visit while staying here! I must say I have experienced one of the best spa treatments in my life! The therapist was very talented and handled my neck issues in a very good way! Just what I needed … (I wish I lived closer to Frankfurt!) Book a treatment here, you won’t be disappointed!

The large fitness club is great too. All staff members I met were the most accommodating and caring people one could wish for. They gave me detailed information about the equipment. Sauna and relaxation rooms are available as well at no additional charges.

Another cool thing I like about this hotel are the tunnels. The tunnels connect all the separate buildings (the hotel has 7 different buildings/villa’s) which are connected with the tunnels. From the spa area, you can walk through the tunnel to the other spa area which is located in the main building. From here, you have access to the all-year-opened outdoor pool. As all of you know, I love pools and I was very pleased with this one. An indoor jacuzzi and two sauna’s are available too. I appreciated the fact that everything was very well maintained.

Turndown service is provided every night. The good-night-tissue was a nice touch and unseen at any hotel.

The next morning, I had one of the best wake-up calls I have ever experienced! After the call, a heard a gentle knock-knock on the door and the very friendly lady brought us some nice cappuccino’s. We enjoyed them while sitting outside with the amazing view. What a great way to start our day!

Yummie breakfast

Breakfast is served at Landgut Falkenstein and I couldn’t have asked for more… The buffet is something to look forward to. Every product is fresh and of a good quality. Also, do not forget to try their à la carte options! They are excellent in preparing the eggs exactly the way you want and I definitely should highlight the bacon which was the best bacon I have eaten at any hotel! Oh, and the waffles with vanilla sauce are a must try!
