The Pullman Cocagne in Eindhoven has become one of my favorite hotels in the area! You will soon read why…

The reception area is bright and spacious and gives a great first impression of the hotel.

Once again, for most people check-in is something that just “has to be done” and that’s it. To me, it is more than just that and they did a great job at the Pullman in Eindhoven! The young woman who checked us in was very professional and made us feel welcome! She gave us all the information we needed about the area and the hotel. We received a handy map of the city and its surrounding areas for us to explore.

The deluxe room we stayed in was very spacious and definitely of a 4 star level. It had a queen bed, a nice desk with a comfy chair and a large and very comfortable lounge chair. The bathroom had a large window which is somehow blinded. It had a very comfortable rainshower, single (but large) sink and a toilet. The toiletries are of a very good quality! Every superior room has a Nespresso coffee machine and 2 free bottles of water. Bathrobes and slippers are provided too.

Be sure to reserve your table at Vestdijk 47, Pullman’s onsite restaurant. First of all: this is a very ‘Instragramable’ place. The interior design is just wonderful, I couldn’t stop taking pictures here. But most importantly, the food and service are top notch! I was pleasantly surprised by the high level of standard they offer here. We thoroughly enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal with accompanied wine pairing. Mark Leenders is the head chef and definitely knows how to combine ingredients and flavors.

We started with king crab with marinated radish, marshmallow of apple, grapefruit, kalamansi gel and merengue yogurt. As a main course, we enjoyed a pickled rump cap which came with a sweet potato cream and green asparagus. The dessert – always a must! – was a mousse of orange, Lemon curd, dried cumquat and honey and thyme ice cream. Heaven!

The thing I really appreciated about this hotel is the Spa area. It has absolutely everything you would expect of a real wellness center: a large fitness center, a traditional finnish sauna, an infra-red sauna, experience showers and a large indoor pool. Come on, what is more relaxing than a nice swim after a busy working/shopping day? That’s right, Eindhoven is a very nice city with lots of shops!

The décor throughout the hotel is contemporary, modern and very stylish! We had a drink at the bar and loved the couches (and the drinks, of course!).

Breakfast was of a very good quality! There are several hot/cold items and service at the restaurant was of a high level. Every staff member we met in the hotel (on all levels) were very friendly and everything was done with pleasure.

I am in love with the Pullman Cocagne Eindhoven. Not only for the rooms, but also for the great facilities and excellent restaurant. Oh, and do check their website often for great deals! Highly recommended!

Hotel Vianen

Hotelchain: Van der Valk
Location: Vianen – The Netherlands
Classification: 4 star hotel
Official websitehotelvianen.nl

Hotel Vianen is a gracious hotel that offers all the facilities of a high class hotel. The hotel is conveniently located near the highway and Utrecht is only 15 minutes away. But even when you are not visiting Utrecht or the surrounding areas, there are so many things to do here! Let me tell you why I like this hotel that much …

First of all, the Dutch hospitality is noticeable throughout your stay. Van der Valk hotels is a Dutch hotel chain and people that work in hotel will do their upmost best to offer you a nice and easy going hotel experience. From the moment I entered the hotel, I felt home. The lobby area is accommodating and gives a good first impression. I loved the fire place. The reception staff was very kind and knowledgeable about the hotel and its facilities. Everything we needed to know was explained in a professional way.

Hotel Vianen has 200 comfortable rooms. Do note that from the outside you wouldn’t expect such a nice and classy interior. The hotel has undergone several renovations and is totally up to date. I was surprised to see how nicely decorated the entire hotel was. Rooms are – again – very comfortable and spacious – as usual at any Van der Valk hotels. A huge bonus: each room at hotel Vianen has a whirlpool tub! Perfect for relaxing and romantic moments!

Most Van der Valks offer theme suites. I was fortunate to stay at the Ibiza Suite and was blown away! Incredible how they managed to create such a great ambiance in the room. From the wooden floors to the giant jacuzzi. I loved it all. The suite has a nice cozy sitting area with adjoining sleeping area. The fireplace lookalike that separates the living from sleeping area is nicely done!

The huge jacuzzi is the center piece of the bathroom. The Ibiza Suite even comes with a sauna and steam room. All is decorated in the Ibiza theme. It is all about the details here such as the nice champagne bucket and bright colors throughout the entire room.

The onsite restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had dinner here and the chef didn’t disappoint us, in fact we were pleasantly surprised with each dish. We started with a delicious red beet carpaccio which tasted excellent. The mixed grill which came with glazed carrots as a main course made me feel in heaven. And no dinner without a dessert J We thoroughly enjoyed a delicious moelleux au chocolat with vanilla sauce and caramel ice cream. Hotel Vianen offers a great ‘Dinerdeal’: for 32,50 EUR per person you can chose from several starters, main courses and desserts. Fantastic value for money! Also, if you are not staying at the hotel, you are more than welcome at the restaurant for a delicious meal.

It would be pretty difficult (let’s say, impossible) to get bored at Hotel Vianen! Their Wellness Club is a must visit while staying here! The indoor swimming pool is gorgeous and guests can make use of the sauna and steam room as well at no additional charges. If you want to stay in shape, be sure to check out the fitness facility. The large fitness club is great. All staff members I met were the most accommodating and caring people one could wish for.

The next morning, after a nice swim, I enjoyed breakfast. As usual, breakfast at Van der Valk is something to look forward to. The buffet style breakfast at hotel Vianen is of a great quality. There’s something for anyone. I appreciated the large selection of granola. Again, service here was top notch. What a great way to start our day!

Van der Valk Vianen is one of a kind, I love everything about this hotel… from the most comfortable rooms to the best staff making my stay truly unforgettable! Can’t wait to return to this wonderful hotel!

Classification: 5 star hotel

One of the top rated hotels in the city, W Hong Kong is an ultra modern classy five star hotel in the heart of Hong Kong. I have great experiences with W and had to try this one too, of course!

The gorgeous lobby area is pretty large with a lot of natural day light. The ground floor gave me a great first impression but when I entered the lobby, I was wowed by how beautiful this hotel is!

All rooms at W Hong Kong was amazingly designed and ultra luxurious equipped! The design looking rooms are very comfortable and all have a great couch and oversized working desk. The marble bath room had separate walk-in shower and tub.

I am in love with the pool at W Hong Kong. The place is just beautiful and has one of the most beautiful views I have seen anywhere! It is just stunning… water temperature was excellent – not too cold, not too warm. This definitely is a nice place to spend some time with your loved ones. Plenty of towels and bathrobes can be found downstairs so no need to take them from the room.

We had dinner at the Kitchen, their signature buffet restaurant and it didn’t disappoint! What a great looking restaurant with top notch service! Several designer elements can be found. Service truly was very personal and kind. The buffet itself was not just an ordinary buffet. The food was delicious and most of the dishes are prepared right in front of you! The show cooking element is a huge wow factor. Everything I tasted was just delicious. There’s a good mix between Western and Eastern food options. Do note that coffee and tea are included! The best part was the dessert buffet: a lot of choices between home made pastries, crème brulee and many more! Highly recommended!

W Hong Kong is one of a kind and definitely deserves its good reputation! Highly recommended when you are looking for a luxurious Hong Kong getaway!

Airline review: Cathay Pacific

From: Brussels, Belgium
To: Hong Kong
Flight time: 11h30
Aircraft: A350-900

Rated as one of the best airlines in the industry, I was pretty excited to experience Cathay Pacific on a recent direct flight from Brussels to Hong Kong. Right from the moment we checked in at Brussels Airport, I knew this was going to be a great flight.

Cathay Pacific flies from Brussels to Hong Kong since March 2018 with their A350’s and I heard great things about the airline. I couldn’t wait to find out myself… And honestly, it didn’t disappoint. Cathay Pacific’s A350-900 is one of the most modern long-haul planes in the industry.

I was seated in a Premium Economy Seat which was very comfortable and one of the best Premium Economy Seats I have experienced. It kind of felt Semi-Business Class to me as those seats are located in a more private section of the plane. The seat recline is quite generous with 9 inches. There’s a lot of space, the seat didn’t feel cramped at all with a seat pitch of 40 inches.

The flight started excellent with some champagne as a welcome drink. I immediately opened the amenity kit with toothbrush, toothpaste, sleeping mask, sleeping socks and ear plugs. Very convenient!

Throughout the flight, I enjoyed their inflight entertainment system. I had a personal (12,1 inches!) television from which it was excellent to watch some recent movies. The entertainment system itself was easy to navigate both from the screen itself and from the controller. The selection of movies was pretty good (do watch ‘Get out’ – loved that one!) and I did play Angry Birds… a couple of times! I also appreciated the mobile/tablet dock which is placed on eye level. Wifi was available as well (with a fee) with some complimentary services to use. I loved the fact that I could see the moving map from my smartphone while enjoying a movie and a nice diner.

Speaking of food, honestly, I had one of the best meals in the sky ever! For the first time the airline food actually tasted good. The pork fillet with potato gratin tasted excellent. It came with green beans, carrot and mushroom cream sauce. Another options would have been either sliced beef tenderloin with oyster sauce, mushrooms, kalian, carrot and steamed jasmine rice or tomato and ricotta cheese herb tortelli, creamy Alfredo sauce, sautéed spinach and tomato ragout. I must also highlight the Mövenpick ice cream which was soooooo yummie!

Alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks were available during the flight at no additional cost.

Throughout the flight I experienced great service. The flight attendants were polite and treated each passenger in a very kind way. Nothing was asked for too much! I guess it is all about details, for example, fancy Face Moisturizer and Hand Cream can be found in the lavatories. Loved it!

After 9 hrs of flying, breakfast was served. Again, I could choose from several options: an omelet that came with bacon, Lyonnaise potatoes, vine ripened tomatoes and sautéed mushrooms or stir fried prawn and chicken, X.O. sauce and egg noodles.

We landed 30 mins ahead of schedule and I had the most comfortable flight I could wish for! Thumbs up, Cathay Pacific!
